IMI PHILS BAGS GRAND PRIZE AT THE IPC HAND SOLDERING COMPETITION

October 15, 2019. Laguna Philippines.  A production operator from IMI Philippines, Maricel Velasco and technician Cristina Bautista, won the first and second prize respectively at the recently concluded IPC Hand Soldering Competition held last October 10 to 12 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
The reliability of an electronic equipment is ensured by zero-defect soldering processes. The contest recognizes the best skills in hand soldering complex printed board assemblies.
Both Velasco and Bautista bested 38 contestants from twelve notable technology and electronics companies who participated in the competition.
Velasco will represent the country to compete at the 2019 IPC International Hand Soldering World Championship that will be held at Munich, Germany from November 12 to 15 this year.
The event was held for the first time in the Philippines. IPC has been organizing this competition in several Southeast Asian countries for the past seven years to encourage companies to utilize the IPC standards to improve the quality of printed circuits.
“Many of the contestants have the skills but only few can solder the components with the appropriate and necessary speed,” asserts Johnson Muriel, master IPC trainer and one of the judges during the competition.  The participants were expected to mount all the components in 50 minutes and the units must be functional and should pass the IPC-A-610G Class 3 criteria for solderability
Class 3 is the highest standard of the IPC classes. Passing the criteria signifies that an electronic assembly was built in accordance with all of the IPC criteria for electronic materials and solderability in the medical and automotive markets.
IPC was founded in 1957 as the Institute of Printed Circuits and is now known as the Association Connecting Electronics Industries. It is a trade association that aims to standardize the assembly and production requirements of electronic equipment and assemblies.
