APPLICATIONS:

Great for: Applying heat to shrinking products - Curing epoxy and softening adhesives - Drying, thawing frozen pipes - Softening and molding plastics - Heating liquids and stripping paint.

For paint stripping (450 to 500 deg C) , the maximum speed and the maximum air flow is generally required - these settings are also needed for other jobs such as soldering plumbing joints and freeing rusty nuts. Other uses for the heat gun include:

• drying paint or varnish - 30 to 130 °C - care has to be taken as dust particles may be blown onto the paint/varnish.
• drying out damp wood (before filling or painting) - around 100 to 200°C.
• softening adhesive (such as when applying worktop edge trim or lifting floor tiles) - 300 to 400°C.
• bending plastic pipes - 200 to 300°C.
• heat-shrinking plastic film - 200 to 300°C.
• welding some plastics - 330 to 400°C.

The hot air gun can be applied to melt the paint, bend plastic pipes, shrink wrap, soften the glue to flip brick and so on. It will provide you the best decoration without any adverse effects, if you selected the appropriate temperature and the best distance. When the temperature goes high, the paint / plastic material of the object surface will be melted and easy to remove. To help cool the device and get extension of life, switch it from HIGH to LOW and blow for 16s when you stop using. Do not blow the hot air directly to human body in case of injury.

INTRODUCTION

The non-contact infrared thermometer is designed to be used to measure surface or skin temperature of a target object where as by conventional (contact) thermometer seems to be inappropriate (such as moving object, surface with live voltage or object which is hard to reach due to harsh environment).

SAFETY CAUTION

How it works

Infrared thermometers measure the surface temperature of an object. The unit’s optics sense emitted, reflected, and transmitted energy, which is collected and focused onto a detector. The unit’s electronics converts the information into a temperature reading, which is display on the unit. In unit that comes with a laser pointer, the laser serves only for aiming purposes.

Field of view

Make sure that the target is larger than the unit’s spot size. The smaller the target, the closer you should aim to the target. When accuracy is critical, make sure the target is at least twice as larger as the spot size.

Distance & Spot Size

As the distance (D) from the object increases, the spot size (S) of the area measured by unit becomes larger. The relationship between distance and spot size for each unit is listed below.

Locating a Hot Spot

To find a hot spot, aim the thermometer outside the area of interest, and then scan across with an up and down motion until you located hot spot.

Emissivity

Emissivity is a term used to describe the energy-emitting characteristics of materials. Most (90% of typical applications) organic materials and painted or oxidized surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95 (pre-set in the unit). Inaccurate readings will result from measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces. To compensate, cover the surface to be measured with masking tape or flat black paint. Allow time for the tape to reach the same temperature as the material underneath it. Measure the temperature of the tape or painted surface.

STORAGE & CLEANING

l The sensor lens is the most delicate part of the thermometer. The lens should be kept clean at all the time, care should be taken when cleaning the lens using only a soft cloth or cotton swab with water or medical alcohol. Allowing the lens to fully dry before suing the thermometer.

l Do not submerge any part of the thermometer.

l The thermometer should be stored at room temperature between -20 to 65 ℃ (-1 to 149℉)

REMINDERS

l Not recommended for use in measuring shiny or polished metal surface (stainless steel, aluminum, etc.).

l The unit cannot measure through transparent surface such as glass. It will measure the surface temperature of the glass instead.

l Steam, dust, smoke, or other particles can prevent accurate measurements by obstructing the unit’s optics.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

The thermometer incorporates visual low battery indication as following:

l Battery sign will be shown when turn on the thermometer. If the battery is good, the sign will disappear after 3 seconds. If the battery sign is flicking, that means the battery is low power, please replace the battery then.

NOTE: It is important to turn the meter off before replacing the battery, otherwise the thermometer may malfunction. Dispose of the used battery promptly and keep away from children.

1. What is the distance to spot ratio?

D/S Ratio- Distance to Spot ratio refers to a very important feature of your infrared thermometer.  This ratio is the size of the area being evaluated by the infrared thermometer as it relates to distance.  In other words, the area being measured becomes larger as the distance increases.  This has a profound impact on the accuracy or precision of the reading.  If the target you are measuring is 6 inches in size, and your infrared thermometer has a D/S ratio of 8:1, than the maximum distance you can reliably measure the temperature of the target is 48 inches.  Beyond this distance, not only is the target being measured, but whatever else falls within the "spot" is being measured as well.  This means that if a very hot object is the target, and it is in cooler surroundings, than measurements taken beyond the maximum distance will include cooler elements, and lowering the "average" of what is in the "spot".

D/S Ratio X Target Size,   or   8:1 X 6 = maximum measure distance of 48 inches.

As the target size decreases, or the distance to the target increases, a larger D/S Ratio becomes necessary.  Using the same example above, and changing first the target size, and then the D/S ratio, you can see that this formula helps you decide the correct D/S ratio and therefore the Infrared Thermometer for your needs.

D/S Ratio X Target Size,   or   8:1 X 2 = maximum measure distance of 16 inches.

D/S Ratio X Target Size,   or 12:1 X 2 = maximum measure distance of 24 inches.

D/S Ratios vary greatly, so carefully compare this feature of IR Thermometers when comparison shopping.  This ratio, and temperature range are the two biggest factors to consider when shopping for an Infrared Thermometer!
